Christmas decorating with small children can be a challenge, especially if you’re anything like me, and you like things a certain way.  I’ve managed to figure out how to make it a bit easier over the years.  These tips will definitely make holiday decorating less stressful, and more fun, which is the point, right??

6 Tips for Christmas Decorating

with small children

Christmas decorating with small children isn't always easy. These tips are a great way to make it more manageable, and fun for everyone.

1. Decorate in small chunksChristmas decorating with small children isn't always easy. These tips are a great way to make it more manageable, and fun for everyone.

I really try to decorate all in one day.  I love the way the house is transformed when I do it that way.  The problem is, I have to keep stopping now that the kids are here, and it rarely happens that way anymore.  Knowing and acknowledging that from the start, helps us all enjoy the process more.

2. Save things the kids can’t help with for nap time, or after bed time.Christmas decorating with small children isn't always easy. These tips are a great way to make it more manageable, and fun for everyone.

There’s just something magical about decorating for Christmas, and our kids absolutely love to help.  We’ve had more than our fair share of tears when they aren’t allowed to help with something.  Know your child’s limitations, and save the super expensive, and fragile ornaments for when they’re not around (and the top of the tree! 😉 )

3.  Keep snacks handy!Christmas decorating with small children isn't always easy. These tips are a great way to make it more manageable, and fun for everyone.

It never fails that the kids are starving right when we are getting into the nitty gritty of decorating.  You know, right when I’m knee deep in garland, and lights.  Having a snack within their reach will buy you some time, and ward off any hangry children.  We absolutely love goldfish crackers.  They are the perfect bite sized, and delicious snack.  My kids love them right from the bag which makes it so easy for me.  Goldfish’ pinterest page is a GREAT place to find all kinds of fun ideas too!!  Check it out!

4. Crank the Christmas carolsChristmas decorating with small children isn't always easy. These tips are a great way to make it more manageable, and fun for everyone.

Just because it’s fun!

5. Take tons of pictures.Christmas decorating with small children isn't always easy. These tips are a great way to make it more manageable, and fun for everyone.

Document it!!  These are the moments you’re going to want to make sure you have documented, and Christmas decorations make the perfect prop for your pictures.

5. Embrace the perfect mess.Everyone loves taking pictures of their Christmas tree. You can get amazing pictures even with your iphone!

Yep, embrace it.  It’s going to be a mess when you start, and get messier before it’s over, but it’s totally worth it, and you’re going to make so many memories.
