Christmas is just around the corner, and this year, I’m participating in something super fun! More about what it is in a few. Today, I’m so excited to share these adorable DIY pine cone elf ornaments. You guys, I totally planned on making this a grown up project, and having them look a little more sophisticated. Then the kids caught wind of what was going on, and completely took the project over.
Which means.. this went from a sophisticated project to something to do with the kids. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a bit of a control freak so I did struggle a bit with this at first. BUT I have to say, these kids were so proud of their creations, and they had so much fun, it was totally worth it. I happy to say we had a blast making these!

And now, on to how we made these adorable DIY pine cone elf ornaments!
We started with these DIY glitter pine cones because I had a ton, but you could definitely skip the glitter if you wanted.
We used acorns for the head and painted them with chalk paint leaving the acorn “hat” without any paint on it.
Then we used craft glue around the hat, and dipped it in glitter, and later added felt to the tops to turn them into hats.
Cut the top of the pine cone just to flatten it a bit. Afterwards, I hot glued the acorns onto the pine cone.
The kids cut scarves and shoes out of felt. And I hot glued them on their pine cones. This is about when I let go of all control, and let them decide what they wanted on their elves. They decided what colors they wanted to use, and whether to add pom poms, jingle bells, or arms on their elves. I really let them do their own thing with the exception of times when I needed to use the glue gun which honestly was a necessity for the jingle bells, and the felt.
Kid #2 LOVES projects like this, and decided to make his elves arms out of acorns. He was beyond proud of himself when he finished. Kid #3 was so thrilled about his elf he decided he will be gifting it to his teacher. 😉
Once your elf is all done, you can attach an ornament hook to it, and hang it on the tree!!
And, that’s it! So simple, right??

I always like ornaments and decorations that are made with things from the outdoors – you did a great job coming up with the ‘parts’ of these and decorating them.
I love crafts that involve the kids. This is such a sweet craft. Thanks for sharing!
I love that this can be done with the kids to make the holiday season special and fun. This is the kind of projects the kids will remember when they grow up and continue with their kids too.
I love this for the kids to make!
These are so adorable! Perfect little elves!
How cute these are. I think it is so special to let the kids help make them. It created such special memories.
