Star from afar

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we have really started thinking about Christmas.  There is always talk about Santa, and the gifts we will be buying for everyone.  Of course, the kids always have a list.  We are always reminding the kids of the reason for the season.  This year, I am so excited to start a new tradition with them.  And, I am super excited to offer one lucky reader a surprise (be sure to read all the way through the post!)

Star from Afar is the Christian alternative of Elf on the Shelf.  I know what you’re thinking– Is she saying to ditch the elf??  No, I’m not saying that.  I am saying that this is a super sweet, and fun way to remind your children daily of the real meaning of Christmas.  We do have our own elf, and he will come to our house on Black Friday, just like he does every year.  This year though, we will also be introducing Star from Afar.

Every night, parents move the star to a new spot, and each morning children search for the star.  Then they move the wise men to the spot where the star is.  On Christmas Eve, the star is moved to the top of the nativity scene, and the wise men find the baby Jesus on Christmas morning.  Not only do I love the idea of this, I love fact that the children are reminded every morning of the true meaning of Christmas.

I love that this set comes with wooden, durable pieces that the kids can handle.  Set up is so easy, and the kids are so happy they get to play with the pieces.  Plus, it comes with a book to read on the day you set it up, telling the story of the birth of Jesus.
