This time of year, we bounce from one holiday party to the next with gift exchange gifts galore!  Often, we don’t know who, in particular, we are purchasing for because we pull numbers, and choose gifts at random.  Figuring out how to choose the perfect, affordable gift exchange gift isn’t always easy peasy.

It can get tricky especially when you’re not sure what if the recipient will be male or female, or what age they will be, if they like coffee, have kids, live on their own, cook, like blankets, are old enough to drink alcohol…  the list goes on.  You get the point.  Everyone in the gift exchange can be an adult and still have vastly different ideas of what a “good ” gift is.

1. Consider the age range you’re shopping for.

While many people may be happy with specialty beers (most people can at least keep them in the fridge for company, if they don’t drink), that won’t work if you have some “underagers” in the bunch!

2. Choose a gift that isn’t gender specific.

Again, although some don’t fall into gender stereotypes, you don’t know who will end up with your gift.  Not every man wants a screwdriver set, and not every woman would use them either.  (Side note- I happen to have screwdrivers all over the house because I seem to need them all. the. time.)

3. Stick to the price range.

Nobody wants to feel guilty because they followed the rules, and ended up with a gift that was twice the value they were told.  Obviously, that’s not what it’s about.  I do tend to feel badly though if I feel like my gift wasn’t “good enough”.

4. Try solving a problem everyone has.

I love giving gifts, and looking for them!  When something that’s meant to be fun, turns into something stressful, you’ve lost.  And, losing stinks!
