DIY fairy wands your kids will adore

Award Winning Activity Kits
Crafting, with the kids, is not something I do very often.  When there was only one wild thing, and we didn’t have a busy schedule, and I didn’t work as much as I do now, I planned special things to do with him all the time.  He was the lucky one.  Wild things 2-4 never have had as many special crafts planned by me.  Sure, they do crafts in their playgroups and at school, but when it comes do doing things like this at home, I fall short.  Every now and then though, I throw them a bone. This was one of those times.   I have been working a lot lately, and honestly, a little stressed.  I am a firm believer in the fact that parents (moms especially) can be very hard on themselves.  I work hard to talk myself down when I beat myself up about not spending enough quality time with the kids.  I try to talk myself down when it feels like all I have down is yell like a lunatic all day long.  I am not a quiet person to being with, and my children clearly feel the need to ignore me until I lose my ever-loving mind.  Still, sometimes, I do feel the need to set aside some time to do something special, and different from the things I am doing for them all day, everyday.  Since these came out so cute, and they were ridiculously easy to make, I figured I would share them with you all!

Materials

  • Metal cookie cutters (we used heart shaped ones, but you could do any shape!)
  • Foil
  • translucent pony beads
  • wooden dowels
  • Glue Gun
  • Glue Sticks

Directions

  1.  Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
  2. Line a cookie sheet with foil and set your metal cookie cutters on the cookie sheet.  You only need one for each wand. These are the cutest DIY fairy wands, and they were so easy to make. The kids loved this craft!
  3. Fill the cookie cutters a little less than halfway with pony beads.  I had originally thought that I should just do one layer of the beads, and wild thing #4 decided to start pouring them in.  I let her run with it, and when I pulled the hearts out of the oven, I realized this was a smart decision because the beads really melt down a lot. These are the cutest DIY fairy wands, and they were so easy to make. 4. Put them in the oven, for about 10 minutes until the beads are all melted down, and together.
  5. Let cool completely.
  6. Pop the hearts, or whatever shape you have, out of the cookie cutters.
  7. Hot glue a dowel to the back of the heart, and glue a gem on the front (that part is optional!)These are the cutest DIY fairy wands, and they were so easy to make. The kids loved this craft!

I was so pleasantly surprised by the ease of this project.  Wild thing #4 is so happy with the end result too.  It was such a neat thing to make!  Wild thing #3 actually wants his own wizard’s wand now, so we will be making a few with stars instead of hearts.

Tell me, do you spend a lot of time doing crafts with your kids?
