Hey, guys!!! I’ve been chasing four kids, and two dogs around my house for nearly a year now since we started dog sitting my mother’s puppy last year (before that, i was chasing 4 kids, and 1 dog). Pets are a part of our family. We would be lost without them. Our white boxer, Daisy, truly does think she is a child. She bothers me when I am on the phone, sits on my lap (all 60+ pounds of her) when no one else is on it, gets upset when she is left out, gives me dirty looks when she’s hungry, has and endless supply of kisses, and refuses to sleep alone. We adore her, and I make it a point to make sure I document her as much as I can.

Be patient. Pets are just as unpredictable as kids are. Things will go a lot more smoothly if you’re prepared for the fact that things may not be as simple as you had hoped. Expect to take a lot of pictures to get one, especially if you’re working with children at the same time.
Have treats on hand. Having treats will make your life so much easier. Just make sure you don’t let your pet know where they are, put one in your hand, draw their attention to that treat, pull it above your head, and shoot. Then give your pet the treat. Repeat the process, but if you’re keeping a bag of treats in your pocket, make sure they don’t figure it out. Otherwise, all of your pet’s attention will be on your pocket.
Capture relationships. Your pets and their human siblings have a special bond. Be sure to capture that. Just like we make sure to capture our children as they grow, we need to remember to capture our pets as they grow, and their relationships along the way.
Use a high shutter speed or the burst mode on your phone. Pets, just like kids, move fast. You will need a fast shutter speed or the burst mode (here are some more tips for better pictures on your phone) to capture those furry kids!
Use Adobe Lightroom to easily remove leashes from images. Sometimes, you have no choice but to keep the leash on to prevent your pet from running away while you’re outside. Leashes can be easily removed from images using Adobe Lightroom. (Check out all of these cool things you can do with Lightroom to edit YOUR family photos!!). The below images were taken at the same time. The leash was present in both images, I removed it easily with Adobe Lightroom.
