One of my favorite things about photography is the fact that I get to be creative while taking pictures of my kids. This means, I get to be creative about capturing our memories. One way to do that is to use creative angles when you’re taking pictures. You don’t have to have a fancy camera, you can use a point and shoot camera, or an iphone, or you can go all in and learn how to use your camera. Regardless of what I am using, using different angles is one of my favorite creative ways to take pictures of kids.

1. Take wide shots.
I love a good wide shot that shows how small my kids are in the world.
2. Take your picture from a bird’s eye view.
This is one of my favorite angles for newborn pictures!
3. Shoot at eye level.
Getting a solid eye level shot of kids, isn’t always easy. They move- a lot… But when you do, it’s gold!
4. Lay down on the ground and shoot straight up.
This is such a fun way to get creative pictures of kids! Most of the time, they’re super proud of the picture you’re about to take and totally willing to play along. (Also, if you’re brave enough, or crazy enough, this is a fun way to do swing pictures!! For more tips on taking playground pictures, see this post!)
5. Shoot through something.
I do this a lot, a peeking shot. I love how it frames my subject, and looks kind of like I’m capturing something extra special!
6. Take a profile shot.
Kids seriously have the sweetest profiles!
7. Shoot from an angle that’s slightly lower than your subject, or lay down on the ground on your belly, and shoot from there.
I can’t even tall you how many times I have laid down just to get the perfect shot.
8. Get close, and fill your frame.
Pretty straightforward. No background, or very little background, in this one!
9. Shoot from just above your subject.
This basically means you’re angling down but not necessarily right above as in a bird’s eye view.
Which of these is your favorite? Have you tried using any of these creative angles in your pictures? Let us know in the comments!!
