When my kids grow up and look through the books i have made I hope to have made for them, I want them to see images of their sweet, smiling faces, and the memories that we have made. I also want them to look at those images and see the details of those moments- to look at those images and be transported back in time to a time when they were 5 years old, or 10 years old, or whatever. When they look at those pictures, they should to be able to say, “Hey! I remember that!!” OR “Look how little my hands were!” OR “Holy cow! My feet were always huge!” (I happen to have a kid with gigantic feet, like, since he was in the womb.).
- If one of your wild things comes to you and says “look what i found!” or “Look what i made!” or “Look, i have old man hands!” It’s usually something you will want to remember. I mean, sometimes, it’s just something gross– you’ll have to use your best judgment on this one! When you do decide it’s a worthy memory to capture, just make sure to focus on it!!
2. Take time to capture favorite toys or games. Chances are you won’t keep most of their favorites through adulthood. Even if you do, photographs are legacies handed down, toys change, and being able to look back at the toys we love now in years, well, how cool is that??!!
3. Wispy hairs, eyelashes, chubby cheeks, dimpled fingers, need i say more??!!
4. Special outings and special “things”. We like to camp (my kids have learned so much about real life from camping), and we love the beach. Of course, i want to capture my kids loving life in those places, but i also make sure that i capture the things we do while we are there. if the kids are filthy, or obsessed with a wake board, or make the best sand turtle ever, or living on s’mores, I want to make sure at least some of the images I capture showcase those “things”.
